Getting Back to School: How our new centres can help your child catch up and cope

Unfortunately, large numbers of teachers are frustrated by the challenges they face when teaching in the school system. In fact, more and more are looking for different ways to use their skills and are searching for a way to get back to doing what they love, making a difference and working with children in a more hands-on manner.

Whilst this level of frustration is potentially a great loss to the school network, it appears to be our gain. We’re delighted to announce that we now have four new MagiKats centres opening in the new future, all of which will be run by experienced teachers. And in light of the events of 2020, that’s really great news and could make all the difference to children who have lost out on so much of their schooling this year.

What drives our new Principals?

Normally, our Principals nearly always have the same motivations: they love working with children and want to be able to make a difference. They also want to work in a way where they have the time and space to help specific children with their unique needs, in a child centred and fun way. That’s good news for any parent worried about the impact on this year’s school closures on their child’s education.

Our Principals are also united in a belief that giving children solid foundations in the core subjects, teaching transferable skills, and building a child’s confidence are the best ways to help children succeed, thrive and achieve their potential.

What’s attracting teachers to MagiKats?

It’s always exciting when a new MagiKats centre is launched, but what is particularly interesting at the moment, is that our four newest centres will each be run by teachers, all with very considerable experience.

It's no secret that most schools struggle to find a way whereby teachers can give each child all the attention and help they need. MagiKats provides a teaching environment where they can do just that.

With small groups, low mentor to pupil ratios, and learning programmes tailored to each child, our MagiKats Principals and mentors have the ability to provide exactly the right kind of help and support. Lots of teachers tell us this represents one of the best things about teaching without the many downsides. They want to help and they can!

A welcome endorsement of our methods

We put a lot of work into our educational programmes and how they’re delivered. This will always be an evolving process, as we work to ensure our tuition supports the National Curriculum (and the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence) whilst being relevant, accessible and fun. Obviously, we also vet all prospective Principals very carefully.

As part of our vetting process, we’ve gained some valuable and really encouraging insights lately which show that we’re getting things right.

For example, one of our new Principals described what attracted her to MagiKats as opposed to other franchises, “I was particularly impressed with the way the tuition is conducted using multi-sensory teaching methods, which I know from my own experience as a teacher, is one of the best ways pupils can learn. I also liked the way the two-strand approach worked: workshops support the curriculum children are learning in schools, whilst core work makes sure that the pupils have a solid skill base and are fluent in these skills. I was also impressed by the supportive approach.”

This sort of feedback is pretty much universal and it’s always good to know that teachers, often with decades of teaching and leadership experience, love our approach and can see how it works.

Getting back to school

There are many children who haven’t been to school since March, and others who have only been a few times. Even the children of keyworkers who have been at school, will have had a very different educational experience than they’d usually have.

Normally, at this year, we’re writing about the summer slide, whereby students lose some of the learning they’ve achieved during the previous school year as a result of the long summer break. In fact, some statistics suggest that the long summer break can set children back by weeks or even months.

But that really pales into insignificance this year as parents, children and teachers alike, face the prospect of bringing children back into an educational setting after the best part of half a year out of school! Our teaching programmes were designed to address the summer slide and we believe will come into their own as we try and address the “Covid slide”.

Here’s where MagiKats will make a real difference

There are so many challenges ahead for our children and the impact of this year’s disruption will be felt by some for many years. That’s why we’re so pleased that our new Principals are so keen to help. Principals who understand the curriculum and the challenges schools now face, and who understand children.

Additional, tailored support for your child is going to be crucial as they start to get back into a learning environment, whilst still trying to make up for all they have lost in the last six months. It’s also likely to be crucial as they cope with a different school environment which may involve part time attendance and further periods of closure.

You don’t have to be a teacher to run one of our centres because we provide all the necessary training, but we do seem to be attracting teachers that want the chance to be able to make more of a difference.

It’s neither too late nor too early to enrol your child. In fact, the sooner they start with MagiKats, the better. MagiKats already have workshops across the UK, and our four new centres cover the length and breadth of Britain in Kent, Cornwall, Lancashire and Liverpool.

We’ll make sure your child enjoys the work that they do with us, gets back into the routine of learning and gets the one to one help that they need. Why not get in touch for more information?
