What’s the difference between online learning and in-centre workshops at MagiKats?

With a choice available between in-centre tuition or online learning at MagiKats, you may be wondering what the differences are between the two and which method will be best for your child.

How do our learning programmes differ?

Well, the good news is, not much apart from the obvious difference in delivery method!

Both forms of MagiKats tutoring offer lots of support using our tried and tested learning methods and education programmes that help children to progress at each stage of their school life.

Whether your child is enrolled via our online platform or attends a MagiKats centre, the tuition is held in a small group setting with a dedicated mentor. At our centres, these groups are a maximum of six. Online, groups are often smaller. Sessions are held weekly and include lots of interactive learning, positive encouragement and confidence boosting skills development.

This small group learning environment is conducive to making our workshops fun and engaging so that tuition doesn’t feel like a chore and your child enjoys their sessions. There’s also plenty of feedback to parents in both options so that you’re fully in the loop of how your child is progressing.

That said, there are of course some adaptations that are required to make sure online tutoring is effective for our students.

Tailored tuition for remote learning

To ensure students get the maximum benefit from online tuition with us, we’ve adapted all of our in-centre materials so that they can be delivered via our secure learning platform.

This dedicated system has been designed specifically for MagiKats, with a focus on engaging and educational delivery, so your child isn’t just sitting on a zoom call with us listening to a lecture! Our platform includes tools that boost interaction with students so they feel comfortable getting involved in lessons. We also make sure there’s opportunity for students to work individually, with a partner, or as part of their workshop group when completing tasks.

As with our centre workshops, online students also have the option to receive small homework tasks to complete outside of lesson time to reinforce learning and practice what’s been taught.

How do I decide between in-centre or remote learning?

There are a number of factors that will determine which method you want to choose when joining MagiKats.

Distance from our centre

If you’re within a commutable distance to a MagiKats centre then our centre-based workshops are ideal for your child as they can experience the hands-on, face to face support that we’re well-known for.

Online tutoring may be better for you if you’re outside our centre catchment areas or your work/home life means that getting to a workshop weekly is not possible.

Access to equipment

Our centre-based workshops provide all materials, learning games and equipment we use to deliver our tuition including homework and core skills worksheets for your child to complete. With our online tutoring option, your child will need access to a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone and ideally a printer so we can send additional resources or activities for them to do at home.

You / your child’s preference

We’re committed to offering you and your child the best solution for your needs and so have adapted our services to cater for the growing popularity of remote learning.

We know how important home/life balance is for families and how the pressures of school, work and wellbeing are important considerations when choosing private tuition.

Learn more about our workshops and then when you’ve decided which route will be best for you and your child, find your local centre or place an online tuition enquiry. We’ll be happy to discuss your individual situation and organise an initial assessment to see if we’re the right fit for you.

Affordable tuition for long term support

Research from the Sutton Trust has shown that small group tuition can offer on average four month’s progress over a school year. We firmly believe that tutoring shouldn’t be seen as a quick fix and have made our workshops as affordable as possible so that children can develop the skills they need to support their education throughout their school life.  Read reviews and learn more about our programmes.
