Five reasons why you should enrol in tuition during the summer term

The Spring and Summer terms are the ideal time to reflect on your child’s progress at school. What extra support could they benefit from to reach their learning goals?

Perhaps your child has been struggling in class, or suffering a lack of confidence in certain subjects like maths? Or, they may have the potential to move up a set to embrace more challenges in their education. Waiting until the new school year to get extra support can hinder growth and delay their progress. We’ve put together five reasons why the summer term is the perfect time to enrol your child in tuition.

1. Think long term

It can take time to build up momentum to reap the benefits from tuition. For this reason, we accept students throughout the academic year and make sure they’re closely supported and guided through workshop sessions that match their abilities. New students do not feel out of place or behind when they join MagiKats as we know that learning is a continual process, and every student is individually assessed and mentored accordingly.

A tuition workshop like MagiKats is more affordable than 1-2-1 private tuition and so you can budget for your child’s tuition support for much longer. A gentler approach puts less pressure on your child for you to ‘see results’ and the skills they develop over time will last long beyond the period of tuition. A long-term vision for your child’s educational support can create a stable foundation for their learning progress, rather than just a short-term fix.

2. Get ahead of their learning for next year

You may be thinking that the best time to start tuition would be at the beginning of the academic year, but it can be extremely beneficial to kick-start extra learning by enrolling during the Summer term. Your child is in their rhythm of school work and you’ve had parents evenings and reviews that can help you identify the areas where they need the most help. Waiting until September to start with tutoring can pile on too much pressure as they start the school year ahead.

It can be daunting for a child who, for example, is moving up into secondary school, or embarking on their next school year, to then have the added anxiety of attending a new learning environment (even though we make our workshops as inclusive and inviting as possible). Starting tuition before these major changes take place will increase their confidence when moving up, help expand their knowledge, and provide a safe place to ask questions. They’ll be fully prepared for the school year ahead with several months of tuition already under their belt.

3. Prepare for more difficult years at school

As your child grows, so do the demands on them at school. Homework assignments and lessons become more difficult and as they become a teenager, thoughts will then turn to exams. MagiKats caters for all ages and we have a special programme for students entering their final years of school so that they can be fully prepared for GCSEs or National 5 exams. Getting involved early will provide added confidence and vital support.

Even if your child is a way off from their final exams, setting the foundations in place with curriculum based out of school support can help your child equip for their more challenging years at school. They’ll feel comfortable in their abilities and able to tackle tasks such as problem solving that will help them across all subject areas, not just Maths and English. It’s a great confidence builder too!

4. Reduce the impact of ‘lost learning’ over the summer holidays

The school holidays are a vital chance for young minds to unwind and enjoy their childhood. However, it can also slow down progress come the Autumn as it can take a while to get back up to speed. Starting tuition during the school summer term will enhance their learning and reduce any impact felt from the long summer break.

MagiKats workshops run all year-round and we have a fun-filled programme during the summer holidays so that your child will maintain their learning without even realising it! They’ll have the opportunity to keep in touch with their workshop friends and embark on projects that inspire creativity and develop skills they can then take into their new school year.

5. Encourage your child to embrace learning

It’s important that tuition classes don’t feel like a chore and so MagiKats workshops are focused on making learning fun. It’s a great way to ensure your child is receiving the extra support they need to progress at school, without hours of online learning or the formality of 1-2-1 tuition sessions.

Working in small groups that are suitable for their age and ability, each MagiKats centre has hands-on mentor support that offers friendly coaching. We focus on praising a child’s achievements and boosting confidence in their abilities. This reduces the pressure of school work and helps them to embrace the power of learning.
